An Educators Workshop for teachers of Humash is planned for May 17, 2009 from 9 am- 2 pm. It will take place at the Drisha Institute for Jewish Education in New York City.
This workshop, sponsored by JOFA, will bring together a select group of bible teachers who are interested in sharing both the challenges they face in teaching Humash, and the strategies they have developed in their own classrooms. The workshop will provide 20 participants with the opportunity to analyze JOFA’s Shemot enrichment curriculum, reflect on its pedagogical approach and methodologies, and plan how to implement its tools in their own lessons.
The JOFA curriculum provides teachers with 9 units of study that include multi-sensory activities aimed at promoting the engagement of students with different learning styles. Each of these student-centered lessons encourages dialogue among the students and fosters individual sense-making skills. Students develop a deep understanding of the narrative and an appreciation for the biblical characters as real people by engaging directly with the text and bringing their own questions into the classroom discussions.

It is our hope that following the workshop, teachers will bring their learning back to their schools and seek to utilize the curriculum components in their classrooms as well as encourage their colleagues to do the same. Through this workshop, JOFA seeks to develop a community of practice among participants to reinforce the methodologies and provide ongoing peer support.
Tuition will be fully covered by JOFA.
